Defocus

Wearing strongish eyeglasses may have some disadvantages, but one advantage is that you can “defocus”. What that means: when you remove eyeglasses, the “picture” goes blurry. And even though you can somewhat see most things, the brain decides that since it’s blurry and bad, there’s no point in trying it to process too much, and doesn’t waste too much bandwidth on it. At least not as much as it spends on a focused picture. And somehow this gives the effect of relaxation.
So the end result is that if you need to rest in a stressful situation, say a long flight, but can’t find any other methods, it often works just to take your glasses off, and even if you leave your eyes open, the net result for me is similar to what I would get when I stayed with closed eyes (of course the latter may result in falling asleep which produces a somewhat stronger rest
